We’re building the city’s future in East Village
East Village has always been forward-thinking and future-leaning and as the city moves toward a new economy, East Village has become a hot spot for local creative and tech innovators, and more start-ups and small businesses are investing in the community. Not only is East Village now home to the Platform Innovation Centre, an inclusive entrepreneurial base camp where people bring ideas and see them germinate, accelerate, grow and thrive; in close proximity is SAPL City Building Design Lab where the integration of new principles in planning, design, and use of public space are prototyped and reimagined; and the beloved Central Library, a first, barrier-free point of contact with free, accessible resources and programs. In one visit you'll find young companies in innovative, next-generation office spaces, students testing new ideas with residents, and digital visionaries showcasing new ideas. East Village is the place where contemporary Calgary was born and continues to be the place where its future unfolds.
— MAKING STRIDES IN CALGARY
We’re all about a walkable, bikeable lifestyle, which is why we’re making the neighbourhood even more cyclist-friendly. With a bike score of 91 and a direct connection to 700 km of the city’s pathways, East Village is one of Calgary’s most bikeable neighbourhoods. The latest improvements that have been made to improve the cycle experience are:
The east-west connection between Macleod Trail S and the Elbow River pathway along 9th Avenue SE
A new north-south route along 4th Street SE that will connect cyclists to RiverWalk.
East Village is constantly evolving with the goal of having the bridges and pathways connect to other Calgary neighbourhoods. With parks, shops, and amenities along the way, EV is your gateway for exploration and entertainment.
— SMALL BUSINESSES WITH BIG HEARTS
East Village owes much of its vibe to the restaurants, shops and services that have opened their doors all around the neighbourhood.
Whether you’re looking for a quick late-night snack to a new take on breakfast, or a full-service shopping centre to take care of all your retail needs, East Village is a one-stop visit for an eclectic mix of offerings.
